I’m So Queer For… Sherry Vine in Puerto Vallarta

Drag queen extraordinaire Sherry Vine continues her globetrotting saga with a trip to Puerto Vallarta to perform on March 13 & 14 at The Palm Cabaret & Bar. After treks to Dublin, Oslo, Reykjavik, Tel Aviv, Kosovo, London, and Helsinki, she’s back in our hemisphere and ready to sit back, dip her feet in the infinity pool, and paint her toenails. Queerful caught up with Sherry to see what she’s obsessed with right now.

Puerto Vallarta is one of the few places in the world where I can actually let go and relax. Days are spent poolside. This is the view from one of my favorite places, the infinity pool on the roof of Pinnacle 179.

2. A Daily Dip (and a Fresh Coat of Paint)

My favorite pool spot is the Sapphire Ocean Club. They have delicious fish tacos, served poolside! I can be found there daily with PV’s top drag queen Mama Tits, “The Sweetest Potty Mouth in Town.” This picture is very ‘still life with painted toes.’

3. Lunch at La Palapa

Here I am having a leisurely lunch on the beach at La Palapa Taco Bar with friends Bruce and Greg. Chef Barbara Sibley serves up Mexico City style tacos and artisanal Mexican home cooking, and their libations were rated as one of CBS NY 5 Top Margaritas.

4. Lázaro Cárdenas Park

This park, located right near the bridge to the famed Malecon, is a Puerto Vallarta tourist must! It’s a mosaic tile park in Puerto Vallarta’s Zona Romántica, and it’s beautiful. A statue of Lázaro Cárdenas and a bronze sculpture of Ándale Bernardo by Jim Demetro are installed in the park. This once-neglected location is being revitalized by Natasha Moraga’s art project, Tile Park.

5. A Good Workout (in flats)

I climbed about 1,000 steps with theatrical singer and a seasoned comedy queen Sutton Lee Seymour to get to this stunning view from the observatory. La Cruz del Cerro Lookout (The Cross of the Hill Lookout), is on the top of the La Cruz hill that towers on the east side of downtown Puerto Vallarta. It faces the Bay of Banderas and the downtown area. From this vantage point you can see the Mexican Pacific all the way from Los Arcos (The Arches) on the south side, and on clear days to Punta Mita on the far north. Worth the work out!

6. Drag Shows at Paco’s Ranch

I love drag! Wherever I go I search out local drag shows, and Paco’s Ranch is one of my favorites. It is one of Puerto Vallarta’s most historic gay bars. The DJ’s play a mix of pop hits with country classics, drag shows are a late-night mainstay, and the double-decker space features a central horseshoe bar and dancing on the main floor plus a wraparound balcony where you can peep at the action below. Paco’s Ranch is one of the best gay bars in Puerto Vallarta to watch drag shows.

7. Room with a View

After a long day in heels, you just want to sit back and relax with friends. This is the view at night from my friend Brian’s terrace, with the city of Puerto Vallarta shining like a diamond. Magnificent!! Q
